| Any one here into home brew for the ds? i was thinking about buying A memory adapter thingy-ma-bobber from ds slot one to micro sd. The product i was looking at is the R4 Revolution for DS. I have heard tat its the best card for its price range, and all the mods/ home brew games available for it are really neat. There one that basically makes your DS an Ipod. If any one is into this could you point me in the direction of a good retailer or a better card or software i should get for it. | |

Home brew is not illegal in any way. it does not violate any copyright laws or anything. I will explain the features that these types of devices allow, which are legal and which are not. The card allows you to store any media stuff like music, movies, and games on a micro sd card. The r4 card, for example, has a micro sd insert in it and fits flush into the slot1 of the ds. Soft ware on the micro sd can be load/run on your ds. So if you wanted to watch a movie on your micro sd card it could be done through the r4 card. Home brew is just a term for home made software for game systems. it violates no laws because it is made be the people and distributed for free. If it were not made by them rather a licensed software developer, and they were not a licensed retailer, it would be illegal. For instance if i down loaded Mariokart ds it would probably be illegal. But there is a loop hole of sorts. If you own a copy of the game downloaded, then it is legal. Now you may think that my mentioned Ipod thing would be illegal but it is not. The system just uses software that skins an open source media player ( basically means free, like Linux) to look like an Ipod. it in now way requires hardware modifications (mods). Most homebrew software if perfectly legal, and its really cool too. This is my basic understanding of the way it works, and i am in no way qualifying myself an expert in this area of study, so i am open to correction. ps wheres Makar been

...And doki doki majo shinpan. Where did you purchase your m3? Have you used the TTDS? It has high capacity SD capabilities and it is pretty cheap...was wondering if anyone could put in a word on this product.

| I bought my M3 from a friend, whos dad knows a guy who imports them. I bought it for about $80 AUS, which is pretty good, seeing as how much entertainment it's given me.
Hardware wise, I really don't know a lot about it. I has a 1G micro SD card, which is pretty much full, with a lot more stored on the computer. I've been thinking about upgrading to a 2, or even 4G one. I pretty much filled it with games, and i'm too lazy to even put moonshell on it. Moonshell is the software which enables it to play movies, music and pictures. I know that you are able to put different skins on M3's and R4's, but I cant work out how to do it. I use a T-flash, which is a converter from Micro-SD to USB, to get the games on.
>.< That's pretty much all I know about it.
Also, I use;
www.nds-roms.com and www.romulation.net
You can look anywhere, They are pretty much the best sites on the net.
Anyway, it's my opinion that no matter what you choose, you won't be dissapointed. The TTDS, M3Simply, M3real, R4DS or cycloDS, all pretty much work the same way. I know people with R4's, and they are actually the exact same as a M3, apart from some minor menu differences. The CycloDS is also the same.
Really, if you look on the internet, theres a lot of bickering and fighting about which card is the best. I couldn't really give a shit. I bought a M3, I'm happy with it. People should stop fucking complaining if a response time is 0.0001 seconds slower in the DS game selection.
I guess, people are just never happy.

Most desktops don't even have that.

Most desktops don't even have that. This is the potential memory capacity of a micro sd hc card with the proper formating. In fat32 though this space is limited to a potential of 2tb. If you check the news on NAND or other SS memory you will find that many companies are making memory sizes for compact flash cards in excess of 800gb. If you have not noticed the trend of this industry, technology is shared to other applications. So compact flash will soon be a standard SD size, then a mini sd, then a micro sd. Also another trend in the ss memory industry is that about every three years memory sizes double and production costs cut in half. Think back 5 years ago when a 1gb sd card was 60 dollars. Now it is nearly one fourth of that at an average retail of 20 dollars! it is just a matter of time before this effects the 4 or 8 gig cards, making it more economical to produce higher and higher capacity chips in order to reap the benefits of a better production cost to profit ratio.

| I don't think it will get to the point where a terrabyte card is plausable.
Hell, with that amount of space, it wouldn't even be logical. I mean, why get a 4 terrabyte one? That could store every single DS game made so far. And anyway, it will take years and years till the technology becomes freely available. Who's to say that nintendo wouldn't of released a new handheld by then?

The time it would take to get a 4tb yield out of a micro sd would also have advancement of hardware that may not need a portable memory solution. If there is a drive in the device that holds a sufficient space to make for a plausible no-cart/disc system, then it is probably going to be big enough to hold all your media. In other news, there is word going around that Nintendo may release a report of a new DS around the time 0f E3 2008. This is just speculation.
